6 steps to maximum fridge feng shui
Especially if you or someone else in your house loves to cook, your fridge can get a bit cluttered with sauces, various cheeses, pastes, veggies, and the leftovers from all of the delicious experiments. Here are some tips for keeping that ice box (yes, we’re old lol) organized:
Use bins, but use them sparingly. Too many containers can make a fridge feel cluttered and actually reduce valuable real estate. Choose transparent bins with short sides to contain smaller items that otherwise can get buried or shoved to the back. As you need items, just pull these bins out like a sliding shelf or drawer.
Place newer items behind older ones. This helps you use older items first, minimizing waste.
Adjust shelf heights. Customize the space between your shelves so that each one has just enough clearance above to easily remove the items on it.
Use door space for items with longer shelf lives. Store items such as condiments in the door compartments, as this area is slightly warmer and better for items that don’t spoil quickly.
Keep fruits and vegetables separate. Store fruits and vegetables in designated crisper drawers to maintain their freshness longer, as they require different humidity levels.
Purge old food regularly. This is an easy habit to get into if every time you put new groceries away, you remove expired food as well as leftovers that have gone bad or that you’re not going to eat.
